AIIB President and Ambassadors of US, India and Russia and other dignitaries extend condolences at the SL Embassy

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing kept opened the condolence book at the chancery from 23rd to 27th April 2019 for Heads/representatives of Diplomatic Missions, International Organizations, Business leaders and general public to express their condolences.  A large number of diplomatic corps including Ambassadors and more than 130 INGOs, and Business Leaders have expressed their condolences.

 

Jin Liqun, the President of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in his condolence message expressed his solidarity and sympathy with the people of Sri Lanka in the following words:
 

“I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the devastating terrorist attacks that took place in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on April 21, causing tremendous loss of life and causalities. This is a profoundly tragic situation.

 

On behalf of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), I offer our deepest condolences. Our thoughts and hearts are with people of Sri Lanka as they mourn those they have lost.

 

AIIB stands ready to support Sri Lanka at this most difficult time. We remain committed to assisting your country in achieving sustainable economic development and continuing to build the already strong relationship between AIIB and the Sri Lankan Government.”

 

Saturday. 27th April, the Ambassador of United States to China Terry Branstad visited the Embassy and offered his condolences to the people of Sri Lanka. Writing in the book of condolences offered at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, he expressed:
 

“On behalf of the people of the United States, we share your sorrow and stand with Sri Lanka and you people during this very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families”

 

Ambassador of India to China, Vikram Misri expressed his attachment to Sri Lanka and condolences as follows on the people of Sri Lanka.
 

“As someone who regards Sri Lanka as his second home, I am shattered to hear of the horrific tragedy that struck Sri Lanka on Easter Day. This is an event that was scarred not only all Sri Lankans but also their well-wishers in India and around the world. The hearts of all Indians go out to their brethren in Sri Lanka in this moment of grief. We stand shoulder to shoulder with them in combating the evil forces of international terrorism and will continue to corporate in fighting this menace. I am sure the brave and resilient people of Sri Lanka will emerge stronger from this tragedy”.

 

Expressing deepest sorrow, the Ambassador of Russian Federation, A. Denisov stated that “the terrorists do not have mercy on anybody, would it be men, women, children or senior citizens, choosing most vulnerable and defenseless places and people. Terrorism only strives for fear and suffering”.  Further he emphasized the importance of global unity to eradicate the terrorism and has written “The whole world is united against it, people around the globe stand shoulder to shoulder to eradicate this evil.”
